BBL vs IPL – What’s the Difference?

Posted August 23, 2024 in MedSpa Treatments, Skin Care Treatments

In the world of aesthetics, there are so many different laser options to treat your skin’s needs – sometimes, it can get a little confusing! We’re here to help clear things up. So, what exactly is the difference between a BBL Laser and an IPL Laser? Read on to find out!

Both treatments utilize the power of light to treat the skin. However, they use this light energy in different ways, to treat different conditions.

The BBL Laser (or Broad Band Light Laser) uses a broad spectrum of light waves to treat large areas of the skin, and your esthetician can change its’ filters to target specific conditions and imperfections that start below the skin’s surface. This means a BBL can provide more customizable treatments and energy levels. It is able to target acne, hyperpigmentation, birthmarks and rosacea; It can also be used to improve the skin’s tone and texture, as well as stimulate collagen growth.

The IPL Laser (or Intense Pulsed Light Laser) uses a more focused group of light waves to target melanin and hemoglobin in the upper layers of the skin. It is best used for more pin-point skin concerns, such as scarring, dilated blood vessels, and sunspots. Because of its more uniform approach to treatment, the IPL laser may provide less-powerful overall results than the BBL.
