Nipple Reduction
Wake Plastic Surgery proudly serves Cary, Raleigh, and the surrounding areas.
Most people are familiar with plastic surgery procedures that change the size of the breast. Many women choose to enhance their breast volume with implants and many women and men decide that reduction of the breast is beneficial. It is much less common to consider reducing the size of the actual nipple itself. Nipple reduction surgery is rather simple and straightforward but can significantly improve the aesthetic appearance of the chest.

Our Nipple Reduction ResultsWhat type of patient benefits from nipple reduction?
Simple excision of excess male nipple tissue
Men
Men that have large or hypertrophic nipples are often self-conscious and are bothered that the nipples are visible through clothing. Almost all men that have had the procedure only wish that they knew that the procedure could have been completed sooner.
Female nipple reduction along with breast lift
Women
While most patients that wish to have nipple reduction are men, there are many women that desire to have the procedure as well. In many women, breast-feeding can lead to nipple tissue hypertrophy that does not normalize with time. Reducing a large nipple can enhance the overall appearance of the breast in these cases.
How is the procedure performed?
The skin is prepped with antibiotic solution and local anesthetic is used to make the skin numb. A wedge of the nipple is removed from the inferior aspect and the remaining tissue stitched back together. The surgery takes about 20 minutes to complete, there is minimal to no discomfort, and almost imperceptible scarring.
What are the risks?
For men, there is almost no risk other than a very low risk of poor scarring or over-resection. For women, the procedure could affect the outflow channels for milk production and should be delayed until after family planning is completed.
