What is Dysport?

Posted April 18, 2024 in BOTOX® Cosmetic, Injectables, MedSpa Treatments

This week, we are going to be discussing a newer product here at the MedSpa: Dysport! We want to highlight this amazing neurotoxin for you, and if you haven’t heard of Dysport before, give you some brand new and – hopefully helpful! – information.

This product is an FDA-approved injectable owned by the company Galderma, which has been around for over 40 years. Galderma also owns several other brands including Cetaphil, Differin, and Alastin Skincare (which we sell here at the MedSpa! Click here to purchase online through our website).

Dysport, like the more commonly heard-of Botox, is a neurotoxin used for the treatment and prevention of fine lines on the face. Dysport even contains the same neurotoxin as Botox, botulinum toxin! When this toxin is injected into the facial muscles in small amounts, it blocks the muscle’s ability to contract, or move, forcing them to relax. This in turn reduces the fine lines that may be present in those areas and can even prevent them from being created in the first place.

The main difference between Dysport and Botox lies in the trace proteins that act as a carrier for the botulinum toxin. When your injector mixes the toxin in its’ powder form with saline prior to injection, these proteins dissipate, leaving nothing but the pure toxin behind.

Dysport may work faster for some people than Botox, kicking in as soon as 3 to 5 days post treatment, and also can last longer than 90 days as well. Really, it comes down to personal preference when picking the product that works best for you – luckily, here at the MedSpa at Wake Plastic Surgery, we carry both Dysport and Botox! If you are interested in switching up, or want to learn more, feel free to ask one of our nurse injectors at your next appointment.
